The most useful question is not simply “Which ferry goes to Hvar?” It is “Which port gets me closest to the holiday I have planned?” The island has several arrival points, and a ticket to one is not a ticket to every town.
Car ferry or passenger catamaran?
Jadrolinija operates the Split–Stari Grad car-ferry route and the Drvenik–Sućuraj connection. Passenger-only services serving Hvar Town and other island ports depend on the route, operator and season. A catamaran ticket does not carry your car. Match the port to your base
Stari Grad’s ferry terminal is separate from its historic centre, while Sućuraj is at the eastern end of the island. Hvar Town is another destination again. Work out the onward journey before buying tickets, particularly with a vehicle, children or a late arrival. An apparently convenient sea crossing can still leave a substantial road transfer. [5]
Build in a connection buffer
Travelling through Split Airport requires an onward transfer to the departure port; they are not the same location. Leave room for flight delays, traffic, check-in and weather disruptions. Before a time-sensitive flight home, consider whether an overnight stay on the mainland is the more comfortable choice. Operator notices take precedence over this guide. [5][6]

A few things worth knowing
Can I take a car directly to Hvar Town on a catamaran?
No. Passenger catamarans do not transport cars. Research a vehicle-ferry arrival such as Stari Grad or Sućuraj, then plan the onward drive.
Is a same-day ferry-to-flight connection guaranteed?
No. Weather, traffic and operational changes can disrupt connections. Allow a meaningful buffer and assess a mainland overnight stay.
